Les caract\u00e9ristiques du substrat d\u00e9terminent l\u2019effort d\u2019\u00e9crasement du joint. Cet effort, combin\u00e9 \u00e0 un taux d\u2019\u00e9crasement pr\u00e9cis, g\u00e9n\u00e8re une pression sp\u00e9cifique directement li\u00e9e au niveau d\u2019\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 vis\u00e9. Celui-ci est obtenu par le fluage superficiel du joint dans les imperfections de la bride. En service, la pression du syst\u00e8me contribue \u00e0 augmenter la pression sp\u00e9cifique de contact.
