FELTMETAL® ACOUSTIC MEDIA

Noise pollution is increasingly recognized as a critical environmental and public health issue, ranked second only to air pollution by the European Environment Agency. Its impact on both communities and marine ecosystems is driving regulatory and commercial action across industries.

In aerospace, stricter standards such as ICAO Annex 16, Volume 1, Amendment 11-B and FAA Stage 5 are pushing OEMs to adopt quieter technologies. Similarly, the maritime sector is responding with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) encouraging noise reduction through incentives like reduced port and fairway fees.

At Technetics, we bring over 50 years of expertise in noise control materials. Our ongoing investment in R&D enables us to support OEMs in meeting increasingly stringent noise regulations, delivering engineered solutions that balance performance, durability, and compliance.

How our current Acoustic FELTMETAL™ can help your noise reduction needs?

  • Broadband and Tonal Noise Reduction
Noise reduction of  over a wide range of frequencies provides consistent performance across a wide range of operational conditions.
  • High-Temperature Performance
Capable of withstanding continuous exposure to temperatures up to 1,600°F (870°C)

Materials, such as FeCrAlY, provide oxidation resistance and thermal stability, making it well-suited for integration near high-heat sources such as APU inlets and exhaust systems, where conventional materials may degrade.

  • Reduce Noise Through Diffusion
FELTMETAL™ acoustic media effectively reduces noise resulting from high pressure gas being exhausted directly through the sheet. The controlled porosity of the media enables gas to be expanded gradually, thereby reducing turbulence and the amount of noise generated.
  • Longue durée de vie
Excellent erosion and corrosion resistance – maintains acoustic performance over time.
  • Consistent Acoustic Performance
Alow Non-Linearity Factor (NLF), FELTMETAL™ ensures stable performance across varying sound pressure levels. Unlike perforated metals or wire mesh, it delivers predictable, almost linear acoustic behavior.

Non-linearity factor (NLF) is the ratio of media flow resistance at a high velocity (such as 200 cm/sec) to the flow resistance at 20 cm/sec. An ideal linear material would have a NLF=1. Linear materials are desired because sound pressure levels change in many applications, and a relatively linear responding material provides optimum acoustics performance over a range of sound pressures and intensities. In comparison, high NLF materials, such as perorated material or wire screen are drastically influenced by these changes, leading to reduced efficiency.

  • Easy to Clean
FELTMETAL™ is fully cleanable using methods like steam cleaning, solvent degreasing, ultrasonic cleaning, etc., making it suitable for sterile sensitive environments.
  • Optimized Acoustic Impedance
    Achieved through acoustic impedance matching.
